GROWING INDEPENDENCE · AGES 11–15

Support their progress.
Respect their independence.

As schoolwork becomes more demanding, your role changes. Help them find a way through difficult topics, build effective study habits and ask for support — without making every evening a check on their work.

The open sandbox is available now with synthetic fractions examples. The wider curriculum for this stage is in development; the demo is not a live tutoring or enrolment service.

SUPPORT THAT FITS THE STAGE

Build knowledge.
Build a way to study.

Students need enough support to move forward and enough ownership to make learning their own. Personalisation should adapt the challenge while keeping expectations clear.

01

Find the missing connection.

A difficult topic may depend on an earlier idea. Revisit that prerequisite without labelling the learner or sending them back through everything.

02

Explain, then practise.

Show the reasoning behind a method, offer targeted hints, and use a fresh problem to check independent understanding.

03

Review with a purpose.

Revisit ideas after a gap and mix related questions when useful. Completed tasks are not the same as lasting understanding.

A SHARED GOAL. DIFFERENT ROLES.

For you: insight without hovering.

  • Understand strengths, recurring difficulties and where support has been used.
  • Use a shared conversation about the next step, rather than a daily interrogation about scores.
  • Support manageable routines and recognise progress without comparing students.

For them: more ownership of learning.

  • Choose from relevant examples and appropriate next activities.
  • Know why an activity is recommended and when it is time to revisit a skill.
  • Ask for an explanation or a hint without being treated as less capable.

QUESTIONS FOR THIS STAGE

A clearer picture.

Will it help with exams?

The intended approach includes practice, checking understanding and revision. Confirmed subjects, qualifications and exam-board coverage will be published before launch; this page does not promise grade improvements.

What if they already understand the topic?

Appropriate extension should involve applying ideas in less familiar situations or explaining reasoning, rather than simply doing more of the same questions.

Will parents see every interaction?

The full platform’s access and privacy arrangements have not been confirmed. The intended parent experience should offer useful learning insight while respecting a young person’s growing independence.

MORE WAYS TO BUILD UNDERSTANDING

Choose the approach.
Keep the goal.

Explore diagrams, worked examples, guided steps, real-world contexts and retrieval practice. Read-aloud and smaller chunks provide additional ways to access an explanation.

Readiness varies within an age group. Learning recommendations should follow individual knowledge, needs and goals.
