POST-16 & BEYOND · AGES 16+

A clearer plan.
More independent learning.

For older students, useful support should be direct, relevant and respectful. Study Buddy’s approach is to help learners identify what needs work, use their study time well and take ownership of the next step.

The open sandbox is available now with synthetic fractions examples. The wider curriculum for this stage is in development; the demo is not a live tutoring or enrolment service.

SUPPORT THAT FITS THE STAGE

Support that earns
its place in a study routine.

Older learners need specific feedback, realistic priorities and control over their work. The challenge should follow their knowledge and goals, with room to question the method and evaluate the reasoning.

01

Prioritise the actual gap.

Identify the concept or method that is holding up progress. Make recommendations transparent so the learner can assess and challenge them.

02

Practise for transfer.

Move beyond familiar question patterns. Use unfamiliar contexts and explanations of reasoning to check whether knowledge can be applied.

03

Make revision deliberate.

Use retrieval and later review to check retention. Distinguish assisted completion from what the learner can do independently.

A SHARED GOAL. DIFFERENT ROLES.

For parents: support the person, not just the result.

  • Agree with the learner what support and progress information would be useful.
  • Ask about priorities and obstacles instead of monitoring every task.
  • Offer practical help with routines, resources and access to a teacher when needed.

For learners: agency and useful feedback.

  • Set goals and understand the evidence behind a suggested next step.
  • Choose direct explanations, worked examples or a hint when it helps.
  • Review independently demonstrated knowledge, not inflated completion scores.

QUESTIONS FOR THIS STAGE

A clearer picture.

Which post-16 qualifications are supported?

Coverage has not been confirmed. Do not assume A levels, vocational qualifications, university courses or specific exam boards are supported until a verified content list is published.

Will the service do assignments for the learner?

The intended purpose is to develop understanding and independent work through explanations and practice. It should support learning in accordance with the learner’s institution and assessment rules.

How will parent access work for adults?

Adult learners should control whether learning information is shared with a parent. The live service must implement and explain those permissions before it handles personal learning data.

MORE WAYS TO BUILD UNDERSTANDING

Choose the approach.
Keep the goal.

Explore diagrams, worked examples, guided steps, real-world contexts and retrieval practice. Read-aloud and smaller chunks provide additional ways to access an explanation.
